Andrea Micheli wins European Research Council grant

The European Research Council (ERC) has awarded the prestigious ERC Starting Grant to Andrea Micheli, Head of the PSO (Planning, Scheduling and Optimization) Research Unit of the Digital Industry Center.

we are pleased to report that the European Research Council (ERC) has recently awarded the prestigious ERC Starting Grant, reserved for talented scholars at the beginning of their careers, to Andrea Micheli, Head of the PSO (Planning, Scheduling and Optimization) Research Unit of the Digital Industry Center.

ERC is the leading European body that subsidizes excellent frontier research. The news of the award came officially from Brussels, following a highly competitive selection process.

Specifically, Andrea will be able to count on funding of about 1.5 million euros to develop, over five years and together with a dedicated team, the STEP-RL project. Scope of the project is Temporal Planning, one of the most strategic fields of Artificial Intelligence and a pillar of the Digital Industry Center, with applications in autonomous robotics, logistics, flexible manufacturing and many other areas.

FBK President Ferruccio Resta commented, "The acquisition of an ERC project is a source of pride for the entire FBK community. This prestigious international recognition attests to Andrea Micheli's commitment and talent and confirms to us how the policies of growth and empowerment of young people implemented by the Foundation are successful."
