FBK offers two options for Research.
Physical machines
They are bought by research units and have the following two modes of use.
managed by the SIT: they are accessible from the internal network and can possibly host web services in the DMZ.
self-managed: they are located in the data center, managed by users as administrators, accessible from the internal network, they surf the internet but cannot provide external services.
Virtual machines
The virtual machines are on Azure. Upon request, they can be managed centrally by FBK. As far as self-managed virtual machines are concerned, the process is more complex, since you need to request an Azure subscription. In both cases, a monthly fee relating to the use of the requested resources will be paid.
Computing resources must be agreed with the IT service (help-it@fbk.eu).
