Health surveillance is a general measure for the protection of workers' health; it includes the set of medical acts aimed at protecting the health and safety (in its health component) of workers in relation to the work environment, occupational risk factors and the way the work tasks are carried out, and the determination on the judgment of suitability for the specific task.

There are 7 types of medical examinations required by current regulations:

  • PREVENTIVE m.e.: should it be necessary for the specific role to be performed;
  • PERIODIC m.e.: health status plus specific fitness, every 2-5 years depending on the risk identified;
  • m.e. AT WORKER'S REQUEST: if deemed appropriate;
  • m.e. AT THE TIME OF NEW TASKS ASSIGNED: if it is necessary for the specific role to be performed;
  • m.e. PRIOR TO RESTARTING WORK: after at least 60 consecutive days of illness;
  • m.e. PREVENTIVE BEFORE HIRING : if it was necessary for the specific role to be performed;
  • m.e. AT THE TERMINATION OF THE EMPLOYMENT RELATIONSHIP: in the cases provided for by the norm.

Fondazione Bruno Kessler has set up a specific health protocol with the occupational health physician.

Workers shall comply with health surveillance, when required as well as explicitly requested by the employer; they will  receive the results of the health examination afterwards.

Workers are required to comply with specific prescriptions (e.g., use of corrective lenses) if requested by the occupational health physician following the medical examination.
